Mrs. Clara W. Cosby, age 95, of Richmond, died December 23, 2007. She was born the third of fourteen children to the union of Cora and John White was born March 9, 1912.

From a very young age, Clara was taught Christian principles. She became a member of Abner Baptist Church of Glen Allen, Virginia. She was an active member and participated in many church activities and functions. Later in life she became a member of Triumphant Baptist Church where she served as a faithful and loyal member. She served as an usher and participated in many other church ministries and activities. Clara also participated regularly with the Trinity Baptist Church Senior Group.

Clara married the late George Walter Cosby and had one daughter, the late Margaret White Bowling.

She began a career with the federal government that would expand to 30 years.

Clara enjoyed a very full and abundant life for more than 30 years after her retirement. She was known for cooking her famous cakes and rolls and participating in several clubs and activities at her residence the Renaissance Senior Home.

Clara was dedicated to her family and friends with a heart full of love to all she met. She was known for her willingness to serve and help out others during their illnesses.

She was very independent and had a great sense of humor. Clara loved to hear a good joke and loved to laugh and fellowship with family and friends.

She was the oldest living member of her family and considered the matriarch of the family. Surviving are two daughters, Jewell V. Bowling and Crystal B. Brown; one great-grandson, Willis Bolden; brother, Samuel White; sister, Rena Cooper; host of nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Remains rested at Scott's Funeral Home, 115 E. Brookland Park Blvd., where the family received friends Thursday, December 27, 2007, from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Funeral services was held 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2007, at Triumphant Baptist Church, 2003 Lamb Ave. Rev. Arthur Jones officiated. Interment Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
