Clemence mother appears to have been of an unrecorded first marriage to an unknown first wife. See "Three Elizabeth Ludlams of Oyster Bay" by Harry Macy Jr. New York Genealogical and Biographical Record. Vol. 131, No. 2, Pgs 109 -116. He specifically considers Clemence Ludlam Feke on pgs. 112 - 113. Macy reasons the existence of an unknown first marriage stating "Elizabeth, the widow of Gideon Wright, does not appear on record after the date of her husband's (Gideon) will, 14 May 1685. By 18 February 1687 (probably 1687/8) Joseph Ludlam had a wife Elizabeth. Their marriage most likely would have occurred a year or so after Wrights death. This raises one problem -- Clemence Ludlam (later Feke) was probably born 1684. Her gravestone reads "hear lieth the body of Clemence Feke who died August ye 8th 1760 aged 76 years") which would place her birth date in 1683 or 1684 (if the inscription means "76 years" or 1685 (if the inscription means "in her 76th year).
Either date puts her birth before when Joseph married the widow Wright. Elizabeth widow of Gideon Wright thus is her step mother following this reading of the records and her tombstone.
