An expedition of nine vessels sailed from Plymouth England on May 6, 1609 fitted out with supplies and men and women of 500 settlers. Within eight days sail of Virginia they were caught in a terrible hurricane and the vessels were scattered by the storm with one of the vessels, the DIAMOND under Captain Radcliffe, was severaly wrecked but managed to continue on. They reached the port of Jamestown in August 1609. On that ship, the Diamond, was SIR KNIGHT RICHARD ROBERT HILL I, Gent, wife LADY JUDITH ATKINSON, his father and mother-in-law SIR KNIGHT WILLIAM ATKINSON and LADY MARGARET LANGSTROTH having subscribed and paid 87 pounds 10 shillings, about $436.00 to the London Company.
