Marceline Burtt, 81, died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005, at her home in Madison. Services were at 10 a.m. today in the chapel at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson.
Visitation was after 9 a.m. today. Burial was in Lakewood Memorial Park.
Mrs. Burtt was born in Pascagoula on Nov. 8, 1923, to the late Asa and Glyda May Hursey. She was a longtime resident of Vicksburg and moved to Madison two years ago to live with her daughter.
She was an active member of Bowmar Avenue Baptist Church in Vicksburg and a member of the B.A.S.S. Club.
After more than 15 years of employment with the Bunge Corporation as an executive secretary, she retired and spent time playing cards and watching golf on TV. Before her hands were stricken with arthritis, she enjoyed making clothes for her children and crocheting. After her husband passed away, she began traveling with her daughter Becky.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 44 years, Leslie N. Burtt Sr.; her parents; son-in-law, Mike Richter; granddaughter, Yvette Mayer; and her brother, Asa Hursey.
Survivors include her sons, Neil Burtt and his wife, Judy, of Chalmette, La., and Steve Burtt of Gautier; her daughters, Becky Carruth of Madison and Judy Richter of Huntsville, Ala., and "honorary daughter" Brenda Lancaster of Madison; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In her last years she enjoyed the adoration of her dog, Gidget, and her cats, Phoebe and Gigi.
Mrs. Burtt was devoted to her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
