On behalf of Monsieur and Madame Harel and the town hall and citizens of the village of Montbray, France, I would like to extend their sincere thanks for your assistance in honoring John Carter on 9 July 2016. It was important for the organizers of this memorial to have a wreath laid on his grave in Mount Evergreen Cemetery at the same time they were dedicating a memorial to him here in France.

First Lieutenant Carter was a P-47 Thunderbolt pilot flying in support of ground operations in Normandy in the summer of 1944. During combat, he crashed into a house in Montbray, France killing 7 occupants and himself. The village has not forgotten his sacrifice nor the sacrifice of the 7 French civilians in the liberation of the France. The monument shows the tail of a P-47 protruding from a small wall of stones representing a house. They also have information on 1LT Carter and the 7 civilians who died in the crash as part of the memorial.

Suzanne Harel & her husband were the driving force behind the memorial/monument to 1Lt John Carter and the 7 French citizens killed in 1944.
