FITCHBURG: Fr. Laurie L. Leger, M.S., 93, of Fitchburg, a LaSalette Priest for over seventy years died Saturday, October 16, 2021 at The Highlands, Fitchburg.

Fr. Leger was born in Fitchburg, February 28, 1928 the eldest of seven children born to Andre E. and Nathalie M. (LeBlanc) Leger and resided much of his life in Fitchburg.

Fr. Leger began his education at St. Joseph's School in Fitchburg. He then continued his education at the LaSalette Seminary in Enfield, NH, LaSalette Novitiate in East Brewster and the LaSalette Major Seminary in Attleboro before his ordination at St. Joseph's Church in Fitchburg on May 29, 1954 by Bishop Camille-Andre LeBlanc, DD.

Fr. Leger's assignments include the LaSalette Novitiate in Center Harbor, NH, Camp Pius XI in Enfield, NH, LaSalette Mission Procure in Attleboro, Chaplain of the Hospital Hotel Dieu in Montreal, Quebec, Paroisse Notre Dame de LaSalette in Montreal, Quebec, Paroisse Marie Reine in Richardville, NB, Paroisse St. Jean de Brebeuf in Pte. Gatineau. Quebec, Shrines of Our Lady of LaSalette in Attleboro and Enfield, NH, Our Lady of the Cape, Brewster, Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, Gardner and St. Joseph Church in Fitchburg where he ministered until his health declined.

Father Léger was of a quiet nature. He was always interested in his fellow La Salettes and their lives and was a role model for those who lived religious life.

Fr. Leger leaves his brother, Eugene L. Leger of Austin, TX; five sisters, Viola P. Leger, Sister Irene Leger, NDSC, Sister Agnes Leger, NDSC, Lilianne J. Leger-Maples all of NB Canada, Doris A. Leger of Fitchburg. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Fr. Leger will lie in state at St. Joseph's Church, 49 Woodland Street, Fitchburg from 2-5 PM Thursday, October 21, 2021. A Vigil Service will beheld at 4:30 PM.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 AM Friday October 22, 2021 at St. Joseph's Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fitchburg.
