Curley McKinney died of Pulmonary Edema caused by Congestive Heart Failure, in the Tennessee State Prison, after serving 39 years in prison.

Curley shot his wife Elnora, and their daughter Mrs. Lou Neil Reynolds, on April 17, 1926, after he heard the two discussing Elnora divorcing him. They both died days later and he fled but turned himself in months later. He later killed a cell mate of his named Jesse Crawford.

Curley also was a cell mate with another guy named Robert Statom, who was also in for murder. Ironically, the murder he committed was that of Will Reynolds, the father-in-law of Curley's daughter Lou Neil, although the murder of Will was unrelated to Curley's case.
