Actor. As a child, he practiced gymnastics and dance. Moving to Milan around the age of 18, he entered the school of Giorgio Strehler's Piccolo Teatro di Milano. He made his debut on television, in the Rai program "Zurlì il mago del giovedì" by and with Cino Tortorella, in which he played a mime. After a small uncredited role in the comedy "Era di Venerdì 17" (1956), he made his debut in the cinema with the film "Un maledetto imbroglio" (1959) by Pietro Germi, with Claudia Cardinale. During his career, he starred or participated in numerous Rai dramas, Mediaset TV series and famous fictions, "I promessi sposi" (1967), with Paola Pitagora, "Vino e pane" (1973), "Ritratto di donna velata" (1975), with Daria Nicolodi, "Le affinità elettive" (1978-1979), "I racconti fantastici di Edgar Allan Poe" (1979), "Tutti insieme tempestosamente" (1981), "Il maresciallo Rocca" (1996), "Incantesimo" (2003), "Questa è la mia terra" (2006), "Le tre rose di Eva" (2013-2015). Starting from the sixties, he became a familiar face also for the cinema audience, directed by famous Italian and international directors such films as "Rocco e i suoi fratelli" (1960) by Luchino Visconti, with Alain Delon, "Il gobbo" (1960 ) by Carlo Lizzani, "Un giorno da leoni" (1961) and "Made in Italy" (1965) by Nanni Loy, "Il giorno più corto" (1963) by Sergio Corbucci, "La smania addosso" (1963) by Marcello Andrei, "Les Parapluies de Cherbourg" (1964) by Jacques Demy, with Catherine Deneuve, "Le colt cantarono la morte e fu… tempo di massacro" (1966) by Lucio Fulci, with Franco Nero, "Certo, certissimo, anzi… probabile" (1969) by Marcello Fondato, with Catherine Spaak and, again, Claudia Cardinale, "Il Divorzio" (1970) by Romolo Guerrieri, with Vittorio Gassman, "Il rompiballe" (1973 ) by Édouard Molinaro, with Lino Ventura, "The English Patient" (1996) by Anthony Minghella, with Ralph Fiennes and Juliette Binoche.
