Janice met her husband Stanley Weisenfeld on a blind date that did not go at all well. In spite of that, they married in 1951 and remained together for 53 years until his death in 2004 despite the fact he took her camping repeatedly. In 1957 they moved to Corning, New York, and later to nearby Painted Post where they raised their family. Following Stanley's death in 2004, Janice remained in the Corning area until relocating to New Jersey in 2014 to be closer to her extended family.
A lover of theater, ballet, opera, and classical music, among her many roles in the community were as a Director of the Corning Hospital and the Corning-Painted Post YMCA. She was active in the Corning-Painted Post Historical Society for many years and worked in the Library of the Corning Museum of Glass. A long-time leader and trustee of Congregation B'nai Israel (now Congregation Kol Ami) in Elmira, for many years the contact number listed in the telephone book for the Corning Beth Israel Sisterhood rang in her kitchen so she could be the first to welcome newcomers to the community. She is remembered by many as a friend and surrogate grandmother.
Janice was predeceased by her husband Stanley, her brother Norman Lloyd, and her sister Ruth Lloyd. She is survived by her children, Max (Gale) Weisenfeld of Maplewood, New Jersey, and Marian (Lisa Roderick) Weisenfeld of Arlington, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Mollie and Eli; and many devoted cousins.
