Král's participation in a Slovak uprising during the 1848 revolution, and narrowly escaped execution by the Hungarians. For this reason, he is a legendary figure in the memory of his countrymen. He was one of the first poets to start writing in the modern Slovak language. Among his verse collections are Pieseň bez mena of "Song Without a Name" in 1844;, Zverbovaný or "Recruit" in 1844, Orol or "The Eagle" in 1845, and Zajasal blesk jasnej zory or "The Gleam of a Clear Dawn Approached" in 1861. A full statue of him is located Janko Kráľ Park in Bratislava. His life-size sandstone statue by academic sculptor Ladislav Pollák is located near the Church of St. Mikuláš in the old town centre, Liptovsky Mikulas, Slovakia. A Czechoslovakian postage stamp with his image was issued and his image is on ten Euro coin, which was issued on his 200th anniversary of his birthday.
