Katherine Hooten

Funeral Services for Katherine Hooten, age 56, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday, October 19, at the Tapp Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Moore and Bro. Doug Holt officiating. Burial will follow at the Posey Cemetery with Dr. Ronald Stanley, James Fite, James Pickle, Kenneth Hall, Lee Daniels and Jimmy Dale Fite serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, and the High School Cafeteria co-workers. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 PM Wednesday, October 18, at the Tapp Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hooten died at 9:50 PM Monday, October 16, at the Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.

She was born in Sulphur Springs on April 14, 1944 the daughter of Homer and Pearl Lee Keith Ferrell. She married Melvin Hooten on October 23, 1961 in Hugo, OK and he survives.

Mrs. Hooten was employed with the School District having worked and managed the high school cafeteria for over twenty-five years. She was also a member of the Posey Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband Melvin Hooten; one son Michael Hooten of Sulphur Springs; two daughters, Becky and Steven Boyd, and Sharon Christy, both of Sulphur Springs; two brothers, Sedell and Lee Ray Ferrell of Sulphur Springs; three sisters, Della Wright, Jo Ann Prince and Patsy Jane Morris, all of Sulphur Springs; eight grandchildren, Paul Michael Hooten, Keith Ralls, Misty Hooten, Raynie Hooten, Jessica Boyd, Jasmine Boyd, James Jordan, and Katelin Gumpert.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be made to the American Lung Cancer Association or the Posey Cemetery Association.
