Malaysian Monarch. He was the 6th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia from 1975 to 1979, and the 27th Sultan of Kelantan from 1960 to 1979. He was the second son of Sultan Ibrahim, but was raised by his uncle. He was sent to the Francis Light School in Penang before continuing his studies in England. In 1939, he was appointed Tengku Temenggong, then Tengku Bendahara in 1945. In 1960, he ascended to the throne of Kelantan after the death of his father. In 1975, he declined the nomination of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong election due to poor health, but then changed his mind, and started his term on September 12, 1975 succeeding Sultan Abdul Halim. He died in his sleep in 1979.
