Malaysian Monarch. He was the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaya from 1957 to 1960, and the 2nd Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. He was a son of Tuanku Muhammad, the first Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. He recieved his education at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar. After the death of his brother, he was heir to the throne. He then served in the Malayan Volunteer Infantry as Second Lieutenant, and then Lieutenant in 1918. In 1925, he served in the Kuala Lumpur Supreme Court. During a trip to the United Kingdom with his father, he decided that he wanted to study law. So he stayed in the United Kingdom until he completed his studies. In 1928, he was admitted to the bar. In 1933, he ascended to the throne of Negeri Sembilan after the death of his father. On August 31, 1957, he was elected the first Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaya, and was installed on September 2, 1957. He died in 1960. His portrait is still featured on Malaysian Ringgit banknotes.
