Sandra Dawson Kirtz, 74, of Houston, died Monday, January 18, 2021 in the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, with her daughters at her side.

She was born December 11, 1946 in Southview, a daughter of Richard and Bernice Veydt Dawson.

Sandy was a 1965 graduate of Chartiers-Houston High School and was employed at the 7-11 in Canonsburg.

She was a member of the American Legion Post #902 in Houston.

Sandy loved playing Bingo, vacationing with her family, shopping and flip flops. She was always on the go and was often aptly called “Hurricane Sandy”.

She is survived by two children, Kristie Briceland (Warren) of Houston and Jamie Slack (Mark) of McDonald; two grandchildren, Marah and Macey Slack; three brothers, Richard Dawson (Thelma) of Canonsburg, Jack Dawson of Southview and Paul Dawson (Debbie) of Houston; two sisters, Jayne May and Eileen Cushey (Charlie) both of Houston; the father of her children, Jim Kirtz of Canonsburg; many nieces and nephews; and two grand dogs, Maggie and Sophie.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 Thursday, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Ave., Houston, PA 15342. Due to present circumstances, masks must be worn and social distancing guidelines should be followed.

Services will be private.
