A brief paragraph in the Herald last evening announced the serious illness of Mrs. Nick Kessler. It was the first intimation that many had that Mrs. Kessler was sick. Today we are pained to be called upon to chronicle the death of this estimable lady, which sad event occurred at 11:15 this forenoon.

Mr. Kessler married his wife, Louise in New York City in the early spring of 1873, since which time, with the exception of a few months, she has resided at the family home, on Ten Mile, a short distance from Helena. In 1878 Mrs. Kessler went back to New York to visit her relatives--a beloved brother and maiden aunt. While there her brother was instantly killed by a collision of two ferryboats on Long Island Sound. This event was a severe strain on her constitution, and impaired her previous good health.

One week ago, Mrs. Kessler was taken sick, but her illness did not take a serious turn for several days thereafter. The attending physicians did all that lay in their power to save her life; but the God of the Universe had summoned the soul of Louise Kessler to its eternal home in Heaven, and, surrounded by family and friends, she passed quietly and peacefully away.

Deceased leaves a husband and two children--two boys, aged 6 and 4 years, and a baby girl, 11 months old--and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. She was a member of the Presbyterian church of Helena. In the prime of life, a loving wife, devoted mother and a Christian woman, has died; and to the bereaved family the world seems dark indeed. The heart-felt sympathy of the community is extended to the sorrowing ones.
Louisa (Ebert) Kessler was born in New York. She married Nicholas Kessler in New York on April 2, 1873. She came to Helena soon after the marriage. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Helena. On December 18, 1880 at age 31, she died of stomach trouble after an illness of about one week. The procession left the family residence on Ten Mile to the Presbyterian Church where services were conducted. The procession was one of the largest ever witnessed in Helena. Her husband Nick, two sons, and one daughter survived her. (Helena Independent, 12/19/1880)

On December 28, 1901, Louisa was moved to Forestvale Cemetery.
