Obituary

Margie Rakestraw Brickle, 90, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, January 18, 2021, at Rehabilitation Center of South Georgia in Tifton, Georgia.


Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, January 21, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery, in Fitzgerald, Georgia, with Chaplin Stephen Norris officiating. Allison Mitchell Sapp will deliver the eulogy. The family will greet friends after the service at the cemetery.


Mrs. Brickle was born February 9, 1930, in Thomaston, Georgia, to the late Paul W. & Zonie M. Wilson Rakestraw. She was a 1947 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and received an Associates Degree in Banking from South Georgia College. Mrs. Brickle began her 42-year banking career at National Bank of Fitzgerald, later working through mergers with C & S Bank and Nations Bank and retiring from Bank of America where she worked in public relations, marketing and customer service. After retiring she worked in public relations for Community Bank. She was very active in the community, serving as a volunteer for the Heart Association and the Cancer Society as well as being a member of the Pilot Club and the Garden Club. Mrs. Brickle was a member of First Baptist in Fitzgerald.


She is survived by a daughter, Harriet Brickle Richardson of Tifton; grandchildren: Harold Bradley Richardson of Tifton and Hara Richardson Overstreet of Tifton; two great-grandchildren: Landon Brewer Overstreet and MaryMadalyn Lea Overstreet; a sister, Vera & Leon Ferguson of Marietta; two brothers: Billy & Sandy Rakestraw of Canton and Donald & Sylvia Rakestraw of Carrollton; and a sister-in-law, Karen Rakestraw of Fitzgerald. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Brickle and a brother, David Rakestraw.
