Jerry Hayes, son of the late Joseph and Anna Hayes, was born March 15, 1908 in Clinton, North Carolina. He was summoned to be with his Lord on July 15, 1985 in Wildwood New Jersey.

He received his education in the public schools of Clinton, North Carolina and while in his youth, Jerry accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized into the fellowship of the First Baptist Church of Clinton, North Carolina.

At the age of seventeen, he migrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he later became employed at the Fels Naptha Company, during which time he answered the call of his country in World War II. He entered the United States Army in 1942, serving for three years in the South Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged with rank of sergeant.

Jerry returned to the employ of the Fels Naptha Company and on March 2, 1946 he joined in marriage to Ruby Taylor, the subsequent years filled with joy and contentment.

In 1947, he united with the Vine Memorial Baptist Church, where he first served with the Usher Board, the Loyal Workers Club, Missionary Circle No. 2, and because of his faithfulness of service was elected to the Board of Deacons.

Jerry, in 1949, purchased property in Trevose, Pennsylvania and he and Ruby literally built the home with their own hands, but actually it was constructed with love, for as Jerry would come home from work each evening, Ruby would be there with the cinder blocks lined-up ready for Jerry to add another block in love and joy, building their home together.

After the closing of Fels Naptha Company, Jerry was employed by the Kohler Air Corporation from which he retired after twenty years in 1979.

Bud, as he was affectionately called by his family, possessed a warm and kind personality, with a comical spirit in an unusual quiet and unassuming manner. Uncle Jerry who was a favorite among his nephews and nieces was a great fisherman and when he and ruby went to their home in Wildwood, New Jersey in the summer months, he fished at least three times each week and shared his catch with friends and neighbors, who had the utmost respect for him. Jerry loved his wife, his home, his church, his relatives, and fishing, approaching each one with an unquenchable desire and thirst that brought love and affection in return.

He leaves to cherish precious memories; his loving and devoted wife, Ruby; one brother, Willie Hayes; to sisters: Isabelle Hayes and Sally Lee Tucker; his mother-in-law, Ethel Thomas; twelve nephews, twenty-five nieces and six brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, other relatives and many friends.
