Writer. She is best known for her book "My Memories of Old Beijing," which was released in 1960. She was born in Osaka, Japan in 1918. Her parents moved to Taiwan, before settling in Beijing when she was 5. In 1948, she moved back to Taiwan, and joined Mandarin Daily News as an editor in 1949. She was then transferred to United Daily News in 1953. During this period, she had also written many novels. She published her first novel "Xiaoyun" in 1959. In 1960, she published "My Memories of Old Beijing", which records her childhood memories in first person view. The novel was made into a film in 1983, and it won the Best Director Prize at the Golden Rooster Awards in that same year. In 1998, she was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award" at the 3rd World Chinese Writers Conference. In her later years, she suffered from many illnesses. She died of organ failure in 2001.
