HENRY ETTA ISABEL HULBERT, "Rhetta", as she was fondly known, was born on February 3, 1927, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Earnestine Woods Isabel and the late James Henry Isabel, Sr. Following her mother's death when Rhetta was a small child, her father remarried and she was lovingly reared by Dorothy Isabel as the oldest of a large family of eleven children.

She acquired her education in the Memphis City School System and later attended Lemoyne-Owen College. Her religious guidance and Christian training began at an early age at Grady Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she was a Junior Usher, sang in the Junior Choir, served as secretary of the Epworth League and participated in all youth activities.

Henry Etta was joined in Holy Matrimony to William Maurice Hulbert, Jr. Out of that union she bore two children: Vanessa and Marnicia.

Maurice and Rhetta moved their family from Baltimore, Maryland to Trevose, Pennsylvania in 1961, where she became involved in various community efforts. She enjoyed a twenty-two year career at Strawbridge & Clothier, where she worked in the receiving department until her retirement.

Rhetta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, was a Godfearing and caring woman who touched the lives of all who knew her. She passed away on Thursday, June 9, 1994, after a brief illness.

In addition to her husband, she leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters, Vanessa Cottrell and Marnicia DeVore; five grandchildren, Daynon, David, Steven, Saleemah and Kenicia; her mother, Dorothy Isabel; eight brothers and sisters, Charles, Robert, Roy and Herbert Isabel, Montine Webb, Beverly Fuller, Jacqueline Scott and Juliette Wadlington; two sons-in-law, Kenneth DeVore and William Cottrell; devoted nieces and nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.
