Francis Jones was the first son of James Jones and Elizabeth Mills. He moved to Thomas and Lowndes Counties by 1830. Francis married Rachel Inman, widow of Levi Spain 26 Mar. 1826. He was buried in the part of Lowndes county that became Brooks Co. in 1858 at their Forest Hill Plantation. Today it is in a planted pine forest and hunting club. The two graves are above the ground, brick vaults with tall headstones, enclosed by a 5'chain link fence. The other Spain graves have been moved to Quitman, West End Cemetery.
Survived by his widow and a step son, John Wm. Spain.
