Gertrude was born in "Hells Kitchen" area of New York City. Gertrude married Andrew Rowan McKenzie Kirk Sr. Dec 9,1914. Gertrude was the daughter of Fredrick Peter Ranft & Ernestina Berendina Van Duren. Gertrude had 2 sisters & 1 brother. Henrietta, Theresa, & Fredrick Ranft. Gertrude married Andrew Rowan McKenzie Kirk Sr. on Dec 9,1914. Gertrude gave birth while Andrew was gone for the doctor, the child, a boy, lived for 5 minutes & died. On Sep 26,1920 Andrew Rowan Kirk Jr. was born in Miami, Fl. Later Theresa Ernestina Kirk was born in Providence, RI. Andrew Sr. became sick & died of TB meningitis after a lengthy illness Mar 14, 1925. Andrew Jr. had TB scar on his lung, Theresa was clean.
Gertrude then met & married Charles Joseph Priess, Sep 20, 1928. On Jan 3, 1931 Henrietta was born, she was the only child of this marriage. Gertrude & Charles separated in June 1944 & divorced in Sep 1947. Gertrude spent most of the rest of her life living with her daughter Henrietta, her husband & children. Labor Day 1970, she went to live with her son Andrew, because Henrietta & family were moving to MO. & Gertrude did not want to go. On Sep 11, 1970 Gertrude suffered a heart attack & was stable when Henrietta left for MO on Sep 14, 1970. Andrew put Gertrude in a nursing home to recuperate but she died in her sleep on Oct 13, 1970.
Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, her 1st husband, her brother, and her daughter Theresa (Kirk) Cappelluzzo.
Gertrude is survived by her son Andrew Kirk, and her daughter Henrietta (Priess) Majerak, and several grandchildren.
