David Franklin was born 04 march 1825 in Allen County, Ohio, to Thomas Franklin (abt1775-abt1845) and Hannah Sibley (1783-1851). David was one of at least 12 children born to Thomas and Hannah. Tradition (and a history source) says that Thomas and Hannah came to Warren County, Ohio, then to Allen County, Ohio, and before Ohio, from Tioga County, New York. However, I have never found any evidence of Thomas and Hannah in Tioga Co. NY. Hannah reports in census records that she was born in Vermont.

When my parents visited Allen Co. Ohio in the early 1990's they found many records for Thomas and Hannah and children. But, they found no records pointing them to a residence of New York. Tioga County Pennsylvania is not far from New York, and some wonder if perhaps the history book reference was about Tioga Co. PA, and not Tioga Co. NY.

My father's dna testing matches the lineage of several sons of Thomas and Hannah. Hopefully through more dna testing, we may find if Thomas Franklin is a son of Joseph Franklin and Abigail Daggett. So far, this Joseph and Abigail appear to be a different family. If anyone is from this line, and matches children of Thomas and Hannah through dna testing, please let me know.

Thomas and Hannah arrived in Warren Co. Ohio by 1820. They resided first in Union Township and by 1830 in Washington Township. By 1840, Thomas and Hanna removed to Allen County, Ohio in Perry Township. When Thomas died around 1845, there were no estate papers or a will found in early records.

There was also a Reuben Franklin who was with the family, born 1828, but unknown if he is a son of Thomas and Hannah, or a cousin or relative. Reuben married Paulina DeMoss, and he died in 1902 in Indiana.

Many of the children of Thomas and Hannah left Ohio for Hendricks Co and Madison Co. Indiana after Thomas and wife Hanna died in Allen Co. Ohio. Children leaving Ohio were: Thomas, William, Elisha, Joseph, David, and Cynthia.

Reuben Franklin may be the eldest son of John H. Franklin and Sarah Chenoweth. Reuben also left Allen Co. Ohio for Hendricks Co Indiana.

Malinda (Meeks), wife of David Franklin, died in 1865 in Hendricks Co. Indiana. They had nine children before she died. Malinda was the daughter of Samuel Meeks and Sarah Bartlett. DNA has confirmed this connection through my father and myself.

The nine children of David and Malinda are:
Amos, born 1850 Allen Co. Ohio and died young
Josephine born 1852, whereabouts unknown
Samuel B. born 1854 in Indiana and married Sarah Spangler, went to Colorado
James Wm born 1856 and married a Cynthia, and went to Kansas

twin son to David Wesley, name unknown
Sarah Malinda Ann born 1862 Indiana, married John Redd in Union Co. IN
Emily J. born 1865 Hendricks Co. IN, whereabouts unknown

After Malinda died, David married a second time, to Susannah (Hensley) Spangler, a widow who was born in Virginia. She was the daughter of Samuel Hensley and Margaret Crawford, of Scott Co. Virginia. Susannah Hensley first married John Spangler, born 1830, and they left Scott Co. Virginia, for Alabama, where John died in Larkensville. He was buried on the family farm there. Susannah wrapped up the children, and traveled north from Alabama to Indiana, to be near her brother Isaac Hensley, who resided in Connersville, Indiana. While Susannah was in Indiana, she met David Franklin, a widower with children. David and Susannah married in 1865 in Hendricks CO. By 1870, they resided in Sullivan Co. Indiana.

In 1870, the census family was comprised of:
Franklin, David, age 50
Franklin, Susan, age 35
Franklin, Samuel, age 18

Franklin, David W., age 9
Franklin, Sarah, age 7

After Susannah died, David Franklin and some of his children left Indiana and traveled to Kansas and Colorado. A note found in grandmother's things, said her father was in Norton, Kansas in 1883. Sons David Wesley Franklin, and John Franklin were ina and around Thayer, Galesburg and Parsons, Kansas.
