Sr Jane Carroll FMSA

Jane was born on May 12, 1932, in Buffalo NY, to Vincent and Helen (née Donogher) Carroll. She was one of six children.

Jane entered the novitiate of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa, in Brighton MA, on April 23, 1954 and was professed in 1956. After studies in Ireland and England, leading to a BA degree and post-graduate studies, Sister Jane went on various assignments in Zambia and Kenya. In between assignments there and in the United States, Sr Jane had the pleasure of speaking at many of the churches in Western New York and elsewhere in the US, raising money for the missions, her order and others. In her last year, illness was difficult for Sr Jane, but she traveled the journey courageously and with fortitude, truly an extraordinary woman.

Sister Jane died peacefully on Saturday, October 13, 2012, in the loving care of Mount Oliver Motherhouse, Saint Francis Nursing Home, surrounded by her cousins and her Franciscan sisters.

In addition to her parents, Sister Jane was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Heffron (Jack), Grace Griffin (John), and Rev Vincent OFM. She is survived by her sister Kitty Carroll (Mary Roberts) and her brother John F Carroll, both in the US.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, October 22, 2012, at Mount Oliver Convent Chapel, in Ballymascanlan. Interment followed at Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa Cemetery.
