St. Martinville - A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, June 12, 2020, at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville in for Antoine "Pops" Melancon Sr., 88, who passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 12:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Thursday and continue on Friday at 8:00 am until 2:00 pm.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Thursday.

Fr. Bill Melancon will officiate at the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.

Antoine, who was affectionately known to everyone as "Pops", spent his earlier years in the horse racing industry, breeding, and training horses. He enjoyed dancing 4 to 5 nights a week and because of his expertise in dancing the Cajun Two-Step, Cajun Waltz, and Cajun Jitterbug everyone admired watching him demonstrate the art of Cajun dancing and sharing his love of the Cajun culture and heritage. He loved his family and friends and spending time with them gave him complete joy. He will be sadly missed by his family, everyone in the community, and everyone who shared a dance with him.

He is survived by his loving spouse of 67 years, Doris Theriot Melancon; sons, Michael Rene Melancon, Sr. and wife Janice of St. Martinville, Antoine Melancon, Jr. and wife Jackie of New Iberia, Paul Melancon and wife Kathy of Ind; daughters, Sarah Bonin and husband Alvin of New Iberia and Jean Boudreaux and husband Gary of St. Martinville; grandchildren, Michael Melancon, Jr., Chelsea Melancon, Melvin Curtis, Jeremy Bonin, Stacey Murff, Gary Boudreaux Jr., Holly Boudreaux, Tina Romero, Amy M. Hebert, Antoine (Tony) Melancon III, Vanessa M. Castaneda and Josh Castaneda; great grandchildren, Colby Jagneaux, Jade Melancon, Ross Melancon, Chloe Hebert, Jonah Hebert, Lily Hebert, Rabekah Hebert, Brianna Kately, Lindsey Trahan, Jada Boudreaux,, Ayden Romero, Jordan Romero, Paisley Romero, Brylen Bonin, Alex Castaneda, Jake Castaneda, Mia Curtis and Mya Curtis; and one great-great grandchild, Dexton Kately.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rene and Eucharist Champagne Melancon; daughter, Mary Ann Melancon; brothers, Lawrence Melancon, Joseph Melancon, Amar Melancon, Elie Melancon, Maurice Melancon, and Albert Melancon; sisters, Theresa LeBlanc, Josephine Latiolais, Alice Frederick, Rita Touchet, Lita Touchet; and his grandson, Jordan Bonin.

Pallbearers will be Antoine Melancon Jr., Paul Melancon, Michael Melancon Jr., Joshua Melancon, Gary Boudreaux Jr., and Alvin Bonin Jr.
