On the night of February 28, 1978, 32 year old Thomas Gutierrez and his wife were coming home from a funeral. As the Gutirezes exited their vehicle and started to walk toward their home on the 100 Block of South Bannock Street, they were shot at by unkown assailants. Both were struck by the gunfire. The couple were rushed to a local hospital, however Thomas died during surgery on March 2, 1978 to help repair the damage from the gunshots.
