One by one the early and old settlers of the county are going to that bourne from which none have returned to tell us thereof. The last one to cross over is Robert McCulloch who became a resident of Howard county in 1857, passing away Sunday night April 4, aged over seventy years. Deceased was born near Abingdon, Va., Jan. 19, 1822, removing with his parents to Freeport, Illinois in 1836. January 24, 1845 he was united in marriage with Emeline Schofield who with five children remain to mourn his death. Mr. McCulloch was carrying on a wagon and repair shop in 1857. In 1851 he removed to Decorah, Iowa, thence to New Oregon. When Cresco was started he was among the first to pitch his home within its borders.
