Santos "Joe" Jaimez 1923 - 2007

Mass of Christian Burial for Santos "Joe" Jaimez, 84, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lawrence.

Mr. Jaimez died Thursday, July 26, 2007, at his home.

He was born March 29, 1923, in Minnesota, the son of Eufracio and Rosa Galvan Jaimez.

Mr. Jaimez worked in the maintenance department at Kansas University. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and LuLac Club in Topeka.

He married Mercedes "Mercy" Garcia on June 12, 1948, in Lawrence. She died Aug. 22, 1999.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Hamm, Lawrence; two sons, Louis, Lawrence, and Andrew, Los Angeles; five brothers, Pete James and Edward, both of Lawrence, Alexander, Coffeyville, Bernard, Denver, and Jean "Johnny" C., Topeka; a sister, Georgia Broadwell, Coffeyville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Jaimez was preceded in death by a son, Richard, in August 1976.

A Spanish rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday with an English rosary to follow at Warren-McElwain Mortuary, where the family will receive friends afterward.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of the mortuary.
