The daughter of Oscar and Tillie Sussman Smith, she was born May 16, 1924 in the Bronx. She was the widow of Albert Kleinman, who died July 23, 2003.
She attended Evander Childs High School in New York City and Sullivan County Community College, and graduated from the State University at New Paltz. She worked for Sullivan County Social Services until her retirement.
She was an animal lover who did volunteer work with the Sullivan County SPCA, and loved to travel. She spent at least two weeks every year traveling to Europe, Israel, or the Mediterranean.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita and her husband James Orsino of Greenville; her son, Gary Kleinman and his wife Lucille of Clinton Township, Mich.; four grandchildren, James Orsino Jr., (Nicole) Shoshana, Miriam and Yosef Kleinman; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Ethan Orsino; and three nephews.
She was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Smith; and a sister, Eleanor Sandler.
Karoline's family would like to thank the entire staff of the Blue Unit at the Daughters of Sarah Nursing Center for the wonderful care they gave her during her long illness.
Graveside services were held on Wednesday, July 11 at the Workmen's Circle Cemetery, Monticello.
