Singer, Songwriter, Actor. Born Chan Pak-Keung, he was widely recognised as the first modern day pop idol in Hong Kong, and was best known for his Cantopop romance ballads and compositions. In 1977, he made his acting debut with TVB. He joined EMI Records in 1979 and began a singing career for 13 years. His first album, "First Love," was released that year. In 1980, he released his second solo album "No More Tears," which was also popular. Later that year, he held his first solo concert at the Hong Kong City Hall. He acted in the movie "Encore," and with the strong promotion of the theme song and the movie, he released an album, "Dating With Danny" after joining Warner Records, bringing him his first platinum record. He was popular among young students and became a well known figure in the performing arts industry. In 1987, he starred in the movie "An Autumn's Tale." It was very successful, with outstanding box office results and would be a classic of Hong Kong's love art films. In 1991, he released his last two albums "Love In L.A." and "Just Because I Love You." In 1992, he held a farewell concert. At the same time, it was announced that after the concert in Hong Kong at the end of October, he would retire from the music scene. On May 18, 1992, he was drinking with a friend when he fell ill. It is suspected he may have accidentally poisoned himself when he took a medication earlier before drinking. He fell into a coma three hours later. He died 17 months later from complications related to brain damage.
