Politician. He was beheaded on Tower Hill after being accused of conspiring with Edmund Dudley of plotting to seize the throne after the death of Henry VII. Earlier in life, King Edward IV appointed him as Attorney General for the Duchy of Lancaster. Richard also became Speaker of the House of Commons, a Member of the King's Council, and Chairman of the Council of Learned Law. Both Richard and Edmund were appointed to "defend Henry's position as a feudal landlord." After Henry's death, they were were apprehended and held in the Tower of London and executed. It is believed by historians that Richard and Edmund were innocent, and simply were used as scapegoats. Richard's life and death has been depicted in paintings, books, documentaries, and films.
