Mary Edwina Howard Logan went to rest in the arms of our Lord on Friday, August 23, 2019 at Trinity Mission Rehab and Nursing Home in Italy, Texas.

Edwina was born to Lempi Sofia Laakso and William E. Howard, SR. on May 24, 1928 in Moss Point, MS.

She graduated from Moss Point High School and attended the University of Southern Mississippi. Later she received her bachelor’s degree in education from Pan American University in Edinburg, TX.

Edwina met Lucian Luis Logan during a 4th of July picnic at Jackson Creek, MS. They were married on November 30, 1947. Luis and Edwina had four children, Mary Louise, Christine Joyce, Howard Earl and Bonita Edwina while living in Hattiesburg.MS.

The family moved to Brownsville, Texas where Luis went into the shrimping industry. In 1979-1980, they moved to Italy, Texas. In Italy, Mr. Logan became involved in the cattle business.

Edwina taught school in Brownsville and in Ennis, Texas where she retired in 1997. She then volunteered and did substitute teaching at Dunaway Elementary and was known to the students as Mama Logan. She was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brownsville, and Christ the King Lutheran Church in Waxahachie, Texas. Mrs. Logan taught Sunday School, VBS, and was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

Her past times included sewing, quilting, reading her Bible daily, visiting family, playing with grandchildren, and playing board games along with doing crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband- Luis, daughters- Mary Louise Kieschnick, Christine Versteeg Behel, son- Howard Earl Logan, brother- W. E. Howard, Jr- his wife Toini Howard, brothers-in-law – Calvin Logan, Leo Logan and many relatives.

Mrs. Logan is survived by her daughter- Bonita “Bonnie” McRae (husband- “Cowboy” Morgan), sister- Bernice Lane (husband- Marty), sister-in-law – Linda Logan Norman, grandchildren- Julie McGrath (husband-Sean), Molly Mitchell (husband- John), Daniel Bliss (wife- Audrey), Andy Kieschnick, Jill Kieschnick, Jeffrey Kieschnick, great grandchildren- Chloe Marie Wallingsford, Grace Bliss, Tayen Bliss, Braeden Sauter, great-great grandchildren- Lyric Kounce, Ramona Wallingsford, and many nieces and nephews along with multiple cousins.

She was a faithful servant to the Lord and her family. Edwina was known not only as Mama, but Mimi, Aunt ‘Wina, Mama Logan and Mary. She was loved by all and will be missed by many.

Friends and family are invited for a time of visitation Monday, August 26, 2019 from 6 to 8 in the evening at Wayne Boze Funeral Home. Services celebrating Edwina's life will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at 10 o'clock in the morning in the Pat Boze Memorial Chapel of Wayne Boze Funeral Home with Pastor Jared Raebel officiating. Burial will follow at the Italy Cemetery in Italy.
