Choi Changbok was born in July 1954 in South Korea. She was a loving, doting wife, mother and grandmother. She was an alumni of the Yonghyun School.

Changbok was heading to Jeju Island with her elementary school alumni group when she died in the Sewol Ferry tragedy of April 16, 2014. Out of 476 people on board, 304 died, mostly high school sophomores on a field trip. The Sewol Ferry tragedy was one of the most devastating maritime disasters in the history of the world.

Changbok's body was recovered, and she was cremated and interred at the Incheon Family Cemetery Park with the rest of the Sewol general passenger victims.
