Services: 7 p.m. Sunday a rosary will be recited at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Tucumcari. A mass of the resurrection will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Monday at St. Anne's.
Alfonso "Al" Lopez, 86, died in Albuquerque on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, following an extended illness.
Mr. Lopez was born Jan. 31, 1921 at Montoya. He had been an active member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church; and was a fourth-degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus and a member of the St. Joseph Society. He also was a life member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 2528 in Tucumcari.
For many years he was the owner and operator of Al's Plumbing of Tucumcari. He served during WW II in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of technical sergeant.
Surviving Mr. Lopez are his wife, Tomasita of Tucumcari, two daughters, Maria (Gurt) Groebler of Frankfurt, Germany, and Mary Ester (Rudy) Apodaca of Tucumcari, two sons Albert (Alice) Lopez of Tucumcari and Alfred A. (Judy) Lopez of Espanola, N.M., nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Gabino Lopez, and by a sister, Ermilinda Garcia.
Leo Padget will be the celebrant at the services. Pallbearers will be Alfred A. Lopez II, Luciano Lopez, Thomas Apodaca, Jose Garcia, Matias Trujillo and Gabriel Garcial. Honorary pallbearers will be all grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burial will be at the family plot of the
Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari.
