MELVIN BLACKBURN
(1900-1954)

Melvin Blackburn, 54, of Egbert Stop, died early today.

Mr. Blackburn, a mechanic who operated a garage on Route 52 in Sciotoville for 15 years, had been depressed for several years. Dr. Woodyard said Mr. Blackburn was found Aug. 3 in Sciotoville after having been missing for nearly a month. He was suffering from malnutrition and exposure at that time and moved to Mercy Hospital. He was able to leave the hospital Tuesday.

Mr. Blackburn was born in Pike County, Kentucky, a son of Wayne and Victoria Maynard Blackburn. He had lived in this community since the age of 12.

Mr. Blackburn was a member of the United Brethren Church at Garden City.

Also surviving are two sons, Randall and Denver, both of Egbert Stop; five other brothers, E.A. Blackburn of Roanoke, Frinnie of Slocum Station, E.W. with the Navy in California, Luther, with the Navy in New York and W.E. Blackburn of Harrisonville Ave., New Boston; three sisters, Mrs. James Thornsbury of Canada, Ky., Mrs. Lee Crigger of Williamson, W.Va., and MRs. Robert Mcmanaway of Columbus; and a grandchild.

Arrangements are in charge of Gill Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Melvin Blackburn, 54, of Egbert Stop, will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. at Gill Funeral Home with Rev. Everett Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
