On July 31, 1954, Lavoy was united in marriage to Harold Frank Sheel at Ashland, Kansas. They were married for 50 years until his death on September 25, 2004.
Lavoy loved the Lord and was a blessing and a joy to her family, as well as to those who knew her. Her strength and optimism in the face of an extended battle with cancer inspired us all.
She is survived by her son Bill Sheel and his wife Nonie of Greeley, Colorado, her daughter Sandra and husband Forrest Pobst of Austin, Texas, and her daughter Mary Ann and husband Rick Segalla of Springdale, Arkansas; by her sister, Ina Floy and husband Melvin Geier of Girard, Kansas, and sister-in-law Ruth Hisle of Brownsville, Texas. She is survived by 7 grandchildren: Stacy Maddera and Collin McCloud, Annie Erickson and husband Daniel, and Cassie Sheel, Taylor and Maddie Segalla, and Samantha and Kelsey Pobst, and 3 great-grandchildren: Ryan and Max Maddera, and Pypr McCloud. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Harold Sheel.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at the Moline United Methodist Church with Reverends Chan Lovelace and Gary Parsons presiding. Burial will be at the Moline Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be held Monday, December 14, from 6-7 pm at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas. Memorials may be made to the Moline United Methodist Church or the Johnson Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University and may be left with the funeral home.
