Mary was the daughter of John and Ruth Wright of Philadelphia. She married George Howorth, an artist and oil painting restorer, at Philadelphia on Feb. 26, 1810. They were the parents of the following known children: Eleanor, born in 1817; George, born in 1825; a second son named George, born in 1833; James, born in 1835; John, born in 1836; and William L., born in 1840.

She was widowed in Aug. 1864 when her husband died of Anasarca. Mary followed him to the grave two years later when she died of "Old Age" at her home at 26 Kneeland St., in Boston's current Chinatown neighborhood.
