Martin was born October 28, 1924 to Nick(Nickodemus) and Monica(Monika) (Keller) Haag. He lived in Fairfield when he entered into the Navy in 1943; serving in World War II on the U.S.S. Richmond, a battle cruiser, where he witnessed the surrender of Japan.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nick and Monica Haag; brother, Ed Haag; two sisters, Clementine Hartman and Betty Koenig: three brothers-in-law; two sisters-in-law; two sons-in-law; one daughter, Sandra Flath; one grandson, Brant Flath; and one granddaughter, Jennifer Haag.
