Charlie was the oldest of eight children born to the union of William Martin Kennedy and Phyllis Stoner. He lived his entire childhood on the old family farm in McNeal, Arizona and graduated from the Old Frontier School. Charlie served in the US Army Signal Corp from May 1953 to May of 1955.
Shortly after his discharge from the Army, Charlie married the love of his life, Nancy Lee Knott on August 12, 1955 and to this union was born daughters, Almeda (Tulk) and Charlene. His grandchildren include Robert Lee Tulk, Deidra Tulk (Spangler) and Megan Kennedy.
Charlie's five great grandsons include, Clayton, Trace, Chance, Trell and Dylan.
Charlie began playing fiddle as a teenager and then put it away until a few years before retirement. At this time, he began building fiddles in addition to playing. He also began competing in old time fiddle contests and later even became a certified judge with the National Oldtime Fiddlers Association. Charlie was well known and liked by everyone in the different fiddler organizations and with his talent for building fiddles, he made many smaller fiddles and gave them to children who's parents could not afford a fiddle for the child to learn with. Definitely a man with a big heart and the desire to perpetuate oldtime fiddling by passing it on to the younger generation.
