December 1, 1926 - July 28, 2018,


Steve Skochenko passed away on July 28, 2018 while at the Pete Moore Hospice House in Eugene. He was born in Kildeer, ND to his Ukranian parents George and Minnie [Kulish] Skochenko. He was one of eleven children, and is survived by a sister, Ruth Sykes of Springfield and brother George Skochenko of Eugene. He married his first wife Lee Fry[e] in 1947, and she passed away in 1965. They had 2 daughters LynDee Thorin (Richard) of Eugene, and Sherrisue Kelly (Tim) of Kirkland,WA.

Steve joined the Navy in December 1943, was seaman first class and served on the USS Lavaca transport ship, and was discharged in 1946. He lived most of his years in Springfield, working in the concrete construction and truck driving industries and was a member of the Teamsters. His passion was elk hunting and he liked fishing and crabbing. He was also a master at woodworking and building.

Steve met Beverly Hennessy in 1975 and they married in 1979. She survives him.

Steve was a wonderful man of great integrity and dependability. Everyone he met loved him. He is survived by his daughters, 4 granddaughters, and 4 great-grandchildren. Also by 4 stepdaughters, 1 stepson and 5 grandchildren.

A private celebration will be held at a later date.
