James Woods, Sr., 86, of Portland died Monday, December 10, 2001, at the Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, MS. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Hazel Woods of Portland; three sons, Willie Earl Woods of Greenville, NC, Lloyd Collins of Crossett and Lamar Woods of Portland; four daughters, Mary Hill of Wichita, Kansas, Lavern Patterson of Arvene, NY, Marilyn Webb of Portland and Pam Carter of Parkdale; two brothers, William C. Woods of Portland and George Woods of Little Rock; sisters Lucille Walker and Mildred Woods of Montrose and Dora Gipson of Houston; 33 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 15, in the New Light Baptist Church in Portland with Rev. Eugene Mitchell officiating. Burial followed services at the Montrose Cemetery with arrangements by Davis Strickland Funeral Home of Dermott.
