Jean Griggs (nee Perritt), 39, of Columbus Ohio, died on Saturday, October 24, 1992, in a car accident in Circleville, Ohio. She was born on April 5, 1953, in Lorain, Ohio, and had lived in Columbus, Ohio, for the 14 years prior to her death.


Mrs. Griggs grew up in Lorain, Ohio, living with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Perritt, Jr., and her three brothers at 1052 West 29th Street, Lorain, Ohio. Mrs. Griggs graduated from Washington Elementary School, Lorain, Ohio; Hawthorne Jr. High School, Lorain, Ohio; and Admiral King High School, 2600 Ashland Avenue, Lorain, Ohio; and Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio. with a B.S. degree in elementary and secondary education. She earned her Master's degree at Corpus Christi College, Texas.


In September, 1974, she became engaged to Harry M. Griggs, son of Mrs. Anna Griggs, Lexington, Kentucky. Her fiance was a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a B.A. and M.A. degree in economics. He was employed with the National Area Development Institute in Lexington, Kentucky. At the time of her engagement, Jean, soon to be Mrs. Jean Griggs, was working as a teacher in the Fayette County Schools, Lexington, Kentucky.


At the time of her death, she was teaching the fourth grade in the Richard Avenue Elementary School, Grove City, Ohio.


Mrs. Griggs was a member of the Bicycle Club; the Ski Club; and the Audubon Society. She was an artist, an avid golfer, and enjoyed hiking and camping.

Friends visited 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, 10/26/1992, at the Schwartz-Spence & Boyer Home for Funerals, 1124 Fifth Street, Lorain, Ohio, where her funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, 10/27/1992, with the Rev. Joy Blaney officiating. Burial was in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio.
