Major League Baseball Player, Coach, Manager, Broadcaster. Born Francis Ralph Quilici, he attended St. Mel High School in Chicago and played collegiate baseball at Western Michigan University, where he was a teammate of Jim Bouton. Signed by the Minnesota Twins as an amateur free agent in 1961, he made his Major League debut on July 18, 1965. He experienced an American League Pennant that year and appeared in all 7 games of the 1965 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In 405 career regular season games, he compiled 146 hits, with a .214 lifetime batting average. After retiring as a player, he served as a coach with the Twins and succeeded Bill Rigney as manager in 1972. During his four seasons (1972 to 1975) at that capacity, he compiled a 280 win, 287 loss record. In addition, he served as a color analyst on the Minnesota Twins' radio broadcasts during the 1970s and 1980s.
