A son of the late parents Darius and Mary Montgomery Tackett, Dan was a former construction worker and was a lifelong hunter. He enjoyed negotiating to trade, swap, and barter. He attended Big Run United Baptist Church, and he married Fearl Jenkins on January 26, 1950. She preceded him in death a mere 3 months ago.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen Jenkins; son-in-law James Colley; daughter-in-law Penny Tackett; five sisters, Ivory Williams, Felsey Russell, Angeline Montgomery, Edna Tackett, and Reva Gamble; four brothers, Cecil Tackett, Beecher Tackett, Rex Tackett, and Norman Tackett.

Dan is survived by six children, Eugene (Karen) Tackett of McDermott, Mary Pauline (Kenneth) Baker, Jerry (Marcia) Tackett, Phillip Tackett, Geraldine Colley, and Audrey Tackett, all of Lucasville; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:30 p.m. Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the Big Run United Baptist Church with his long time brother-in-law Corbet Jenkins, Amos Moore and Marvin Carver officiating. Burial will follow in Big Run Cemetery.
