I think the death date you have may be interment date, as he died in January and may have been in the receiving vault until the ground unfroze.
Suggestions from his obituary: Ithaca Daily Journal, 27 Jan 1912, page 3. As follows: "John P. Wooby, aged 49 years, died Friday afternoon. He was born in Lyons and had resided here for many years. He is survived by his father, John Wooby, of Lyons, and his widow who resides in this city at 119 Fifth street. The funeral will be held in the Gilbert undertaking parlors Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in Lake View cemetery," I haven't been able to find his mother.
