On the 19th of November [1865] while on the voyage of the steamship America to San Juan del Sur, Enos Barnett, of Wayne, Ohio, died of consumption, and was buried at sea. He left no effects, and a comrade said he had spent his money for medicines. He had been discharged from the 8th Regiment of California Volunteers. “The Ashland Union”, Ashland, Ohio, 7 March 1866, p. 2

Enos Barnett was a Private attached to Company K of the 8th Regiment, California Infantry. The company was organized at Placerville and Sacramento and mustered in at San Francisco on 25 February 1865. It was stationed at Fort Point till October 1865. The regiment mustered out October 24, 1865.
