Goldie Anglin Hagen, 75, passed away January 15th at her home in Shawnee, OK. For the last two months, her husband had been assisted by personnel from Heartland Hospice.

Goldie Anglin was born in Stuart, Virginia on January 4, 1943 to Polo Anglin and Edith Bryant Anglin. She attended public schools in Stuart and graduated from Stuart High School in 1961. She enjoyed attending summer reunions of that class.

She attended Wake Forest University, graduating in 1966 with majors in German and English. She was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society and taught German at Wake Forest for a time. Subsequently, she taught English in the Winston-Salem Public School System during the first years of desegregated classes.

She met her husband, William Morice Hagen, at Wake Forest, where he taught in the English Department. They married July 29, 1967. She taught Junior High English in the Iowa City, Iowa system for several years, supporting Bill as he completed a graduate degree in English.

When her husband was offered a position at Oklahoma Baptist University in 1974, they moved to Shawnee. She taught Language Arts at the former Junior High downtown (9th grade) and went to the high school when 9th was transferred there. At Shawnee High School, she taught 9th and 10th grade levels until she retired in 2010. She loved being in the classroom.

Goldie was a member and served as secretary of Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority for teachers. Upon retirement, she was active in the Pott County Retired Educators Association and volunteered at the Salvation Army and for the Friends of the Shawnee Library. She was a member of United Presbyterian Church and taught a children’s Sunday School class for several years.

She is survived by her husband, William Hagen, of the home; one son, Ross Hagen, of Vineyard, Utah; daughter-in-law, Lisa Hall Hagen of Vineyard; two grandchildren, Nora Marion Hagen and Graham Ross Hagen, both of Vineyard; a brother, Roger Anglin of Roanoke, Virginia and many cousins, nieces and nephews located in Virginia and elsewhere.

A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church, Shawnee, at 3 p.m. on January 28th. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to United Presbyterian Church of Shawnee, P.O. Box 995, Shawnee, OK 74802 or the Shawnee Education Foundation, P.O. Box 3521, Shawnee, OK 74802.
