Harry Stegall, 87, of 56 Deer Trail, Rockmart, passed away Friday, Feb. 11 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born in Paulding County on July 7, 1917, son of the late William Walter Stegall and Bessie Mae White Stegall. He had lived all of his life in the Paulding and Polk County areas where he was a retired grading contractor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II and was a member of the Brown-Wright Post #12 of the American Legion. He was also a member of the Yorkville Baptist Church and attended the Rockmart Church of God. He was preceded in death by a daughter Harriett Stegall. Survivors included his wife, Essie Mae Stegall to whom he was married on February 12, 1964; three daughters, Lisa Rutledge of Cedartown, Kathy Lindsey of Rockmart and Pam Leatherwood of Marietta; six sons, Winfred Stegall of Silver Creek, Harry Wayne (Sonny) Stegall of Aragon, Tony Stegall of Dallas, Joey Wingo of Rockmart, Stevie Wingo of Rockmart and Todd Stegall of Rockmart; two brothers, Ralph Stegall of Rockmart and E.C. Stegall of Albany; one sister, Mildred Bramlett of Rockmart; 24 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Alvis Miller and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Pasley officiating. Interment followed in the Rockmart Memorial Gardens with Brown-Wright Post #12 of the American Legion in charge of military graveside rites. Grandsons served as active and honorary pallbearers.
