Professional Football Player. For eight seasons (1962 to 1964 and 1966 to 1970), he played at the middle-linebacker position in the National Football League with the Baltimore Colts, Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions. Born William Neal Saul, he excelled in football and basketball during his years at Butler High School in Pennsylvania. He enrolled at Penn State University where he played collegiate football, before he was selected by the Baltimore Colts during the 2nd round of the 1962 NFL Draft. He went on to total 88 career regular season games. Saul had the distinction as being the first player to wear a microphone during the recording of a game for NFL Films. He was the older brother of Rich and Ron Saul who also became accomplished NFL players.
