Berraman Lanford was most likely named John Berraman Lanford at his birth in Woodruff, Spartainburg County, South Carolina. He would only use the name Berraman or some variation throughout his adult life. He used Berryman and Berriman upon some occasions.

He would marry Sarah Ann McGinnis of North Carolina on Sep. 10, 1857 in Calhoun County Alabama. One of his daughters, Hester Jane Lanford, was born in Atlanta, Georgia just a month after the beginning of the American Civil War. He would join the Alabama Calvary and serve in the Confederate Army most all of his time in Alabama. After the War Between the States he would move his family to Texas, first in Bell County. Sometime around or after 1874 this Lanford family would move on to Medina County Texas. They would have followed their oldest living child, again Hester Jane (Lanford) now Berry, and her family to this western area of Texas. Their youngest children, Willis, Thom, and Cathrine Ada would still be in the home nest and make this move too. There would have been three other children of Berraman and Sarah Ann that didn't make this migration. These were Marietta, who died at about four years of age in Alabama. Another daughter, Martha Lavillia Lanford (born in 1865) did not make the journey to Texas so she must be presumed to have either died in Alabama or on the trip to Texas. The third child, a son named William Addison (born Mar 20, 1862 in Alabama), did survive the trip to Bell County, Texas but died at age 21, in 1883 and is buried in Oscar Cemetery there in Bell County. Of all the seven children of Berraman and Sarah Ann, all are accounted for except the two girls, little Marietta Lanford (likely buried somewhere in Alabama), and Martha Lavilla (maybe somewhere between Alabama and Texas).

Berraman and Sarah Ann would settle on a farm not far from the rural community of Yancey,in far south central Medina County, Texas. When they would be buried they had chosen a cemetery just over the county line, in Frio County named Tehuacana Cemetery.

At some point, Berraman's father, the elder Willis Lanford and his mother, Jane Jincy Lanford would have moved to Medina County or to the adjacent community of Medina in Bandera County. Their graves have not been located as yet.

Willis Lanford (the senior and father to Berraman Lanford) was born on Aug 22, 1814 in Woodruff, Spartanburg, SC. Berraman's mother, Jane Jincy Mason was born on May 7, 1800 near Woodruff, in Spartanburg County, SC. They would marry on Dec 17, 1833 in Spartanburg, SC. Jane Jincy (Mason) Lanford would pass on sometime in 1880 in Medina, Texas (which may be either the County or the community in Bandera County, TX. Willis Lanford (the father) would die on Nov 13, 1894, again in Medina, Texas.
