Benjamin son of George and Honore/Honor M. (Thomas) Norman, was b. in 1849 from an old Norman family with deeply rooted ancestry in Cheltehnam, England. Ben left his homeland in 1882 to sail for America arriving to the Spokane Falls W. T. in 1882, where he was greeted by (family/friends) and Masonic societies. The Lewis and Clark High School situates nearby the grounds, where Ben Normans home sat on 5th and Stevens, Spokane Wash; Spokane Polk’s phone/address book. In 1883 Ben purchased Railroad land nearby the site where the mouth of the Little Spokane opens, once a favorable fishing and camping ground of different neighboring tribes. Ben along with his brother William Shepperd Norman (1858–1954), together they operated the Hotel Spokane Silver Grill, during the same year of the 1889 Spokane Fire. The Norman bros. later brought in their partner James Breen, and operated a chain of hotels. They we're influential in mining and power companies, including Spokane Falls Electric Light Co. (W.W.P.C) now (Avista) and the Edison Electric Illuminating Co. Ben resided at the Hotel Spokane, where he later passed away at 84 years of age. His brother W. S. Norman inherited 'Birchwood Farm' located in Nine Mile Falls, Washington, at the confluence of the Spokane and Little Spokane Rivers. Birchwood Farm (Norman Ranch) was continually owned for more than a century, w/ four generations of lineal descendants; the Norman Ranch property presently managed by the Riverside State Park and Recreation Commission (Spokane House) a historical landmark and museum.
